Zarine Murray is a groundbreaking South East London filmmaker who has established herself as a powerful voice in independent cinema. With 22 films and 3 distributed titles, she creates works with “purpose, power, and soul” that span multiple genres while maintaining authentic storytelling at their core. Murray made history as the first UK Black female filmmaker to launch a feature on Tubi UK. Her films, including “Back and Forth,” reach audiences across major platforms including Amazon Prime, BET Plus, Peacock, Roku TV, and Tubi. Despite overcoming significant health challenges including sickle cell anaemia and Moyamoya disease, she has channeled personal experiences into distinctive creative work. Her achievements include Cannes Lions recognition (2023-2024), finalist status for “Best Creative Writer” at the Baton Awards, and a Creative Industry Awards nomination for Best Film Director. Beyond her 27 official festival selections, Murray founded the Creative Film Awards and established Assemble, contributing significantly to the independent film community while also developing educational initiatives through her performing arts academy for children
